Area: Networking
Does meeting new people make
you nervous and uncomfortable? Fear not – I give you a few tips here in this
article to overcome that. Please read on.
Here they are:
1) Make
small group discussions first including both new and old people. Once you get
habituated to that, try bigger groups. Make announcements; volunteer to give
speeches.
2) Once
you are done with the above, drive to new places, book a hotel and attend
conferences. See how people present their papers. Make friends with them and
keep in touch. Then start writing your own publications in conferences. If they
accept your paper, go attend their conference and deliver your presentation
which you have already rehearsed a couple of times. Life will feel good to be
heard by so many people about your research. There will be questions from the
audience and you answer them all enthusiastically.
3) Assuming
your niche concerns research, write more and more publications, attend
conferences and deliver your speeches, make friends and have a lovely time.
4) You
will overcome your shyness professionally. Likewise socially you can overcome
your problem of meeting new people by going to most of the parties you are
invited. Make friends wherever you go, keep their numbers, meet in
get-togethers and yes, you will overcome your problem
5) Socially
or professionally, the trick is the same that is, doing more of the stuff that
make you fearful or shy. Once you get habituated to that, yes you will have
made it with flying colors.
Summing
up, in this article, I speak of both in professional and social terms, how you
can say goodbye to your problem of meeting new people, speaking to them, being
friendly, keeping in touch and soaring high.
All
the best,
Rosie
